The Centro Studi e Ricerca Ambiente Marino ( CE.SRAM), a non-profit association based in Calabria, Italy, has partnered with the IMarEST to improve the recruitment and professionalism of early-career professionals (ECOPs) into the marine sector.

 

To achieve this, the association organises advanced schools, training courses and internships at a variety of establishments such as universities and research centres, both within Italy and internationally. Such opportunities are often incorporated into their array of scientific expeditions, aiming to facilitate practical training of individuals on the job, while furthering scientific knowledge.

 

The partnership will support the IMarEST’s voluntary commitments towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 ‘Life Below Water’, as it seeks to improve the recruitment and retention of young people into the marine sector to ensure the protection of the ocean for future generations.

 

CE.SRAM will collaborate with the IMarEST’s assortment of Special Interest Groups (SIGs), in particular the Marine Mammals SIG, to help promote this professionalism and ensure continuing professional development (CPD) activities are begun as early as possible by ECOPs.

The IMarEST’s NGO Partnership scheme is open to all non-governmental organisations operating in the marine science and conservation sector and supports capacity building and professional development through access to complimentary membership benefits, knowledge-sharing, online promotion and free membership for volunteers. They are designed to help support the work of NGOs to positively contribute towards the delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (in particular SDG14 Life Below Water).
